Week 2 Reading Reflection
Some of the surprising or interesting aspects of the reading were the myths associated with entrepreneurship. I was surprised these were myths because I have never associated these myths with entrepreneurs, but quite the opposite. For example, myth number 4 was "Entrepreneurs are Academic and Social misfits." I have always had the opposite idea of entrepreneurs, considering them to be very academically smart, and socially intelligent as well, in order to be good business men. The myths seemed very extreme and almost too inaccurate to me, but this could be because they are in fact, wrong. This was an example of something that was confusing to me as well. I think the myth's listed were very subjective, as some could be more correct than others. Myth number 10 for example, I would disagree with. The author argues that it is a myth that entrepreneurs are extreme risk takers. The author stated that instead, they take calculated risks. I would agree that most of them take calculated risks, but i also believe that in our society, taking chances like entrepreneurs do would be considered extreme risk. The vast majority of the people in our country are not risk takers, and instead go for minimum wage jobs or steady salary careers. I think its an extreme or rare case for someone to be an entrepreneur, and I believe it takes more risk than a simply calculated one. I would ask the author for real life examples of the integrative and dynamic states approaches. That would help me differentiate between the two a little better, and I could figure out which one I would be naturally better at or prefer.
Bug List
1. When theres extremely long lines at the checkout counter.. In a clothing store for example, and theres only 2 cashiers and 8 other employees are simply roaming around the clothing store, being less productive.
My guess is that this happens because of poor management; it's obviously easier to walk around a clothing store and fix the clothing displays, than to work at the checkout counter. With poor management, more sales associates might be goofing off in the back of the store or not choosing to work the cashier desk, causing long lines and wasting the customers time.
2. Getting in line behind someone who has tons of items to buy, when you only have a couple items to buy.
This happens by chance most of the time. Usually someone will notice that they have significantly more items than you, and let you go first; but when they don't, this bugs me.
3. In line at Panera Bread, when waiting for 10 to 15 minutes to get to the cashier; and the customer in front of you doesn't look up at the menu to figure out what they want until they get up to the register. This wastes so much unnecessary time because the customer could have decided what to buy while they were waiting in line.
People get distracted in line, talking to their friends or family, and forget that they have to know what they want to order to check out. They might not be in a hurry and don't realize they are wasting time of those behind them in line.
4. When people take an extremely long time to reply to an important text or email, but meanwhile they are posting on social media such as snapchat or facebook.
Some people are irresponsible when it comes to prioritizing their time on technology. They also forget, or do not care, that people can see that they are ignoring their text, but still on social media. In that moment they deem social media more important than the urgent text or email.
5. People who post on snapchat or facebook way too often, for example, 30 snapchat videos on their story in one day.
Some people think their lives' are very interesting, or they are self absorbed to the point where they think people want to see 300 seconds of their day.
6. When there is a group text message and two people start having a conversation between themselves, but all members of the group text or group email have to keep receiving the messages and notifications.
Some people do not have the consideration for others; that their phone's are going off for reason's that are completely irrelevant to them. This is a time waster as it interrupt's the days of everyone in the group, but only effects two people.
7. At summer camp when one person didn't do their assigned cleaning duty for the day, but everyone suffered the consequence because of a low cabin inspection score.
This happens because of laziness, irresponsibility, and inconsideration. Some people prefer the benefits of not doing their assigned task, than the consequences of the whole group suffering.
8. At summer camp when we all had to wait for everyone to finish eating at a meal to get on with our day. Everyone would be finished eating, waiting on one person... and they would go up for seconds or thirds.
This is also a case of inconsideration for other's time. The person wanted more food and instead of eating more quickly or figuring out they were still hungry faster; they make the whole table wait so they can go back to get more food once everyone else is already done. This is another example of a situation where everyone suffers because one person was irresponsible.
9. When a leader follows rules, procedure, and protocol so specifically that it defies logic.
I think this happens because some leaders prioritize the importance of rule following over logic and common sense, which I believe makes them a poor leader.
10. When my sister thinks she knows better than my parents, but she has not accomplished anything in her life and they have accomplished so much and given her everything that she has; which she takes for granted.
This is because she is ignorant. Ignorant of all that they know and all that they've accomplished. She thinks she know's better than them because she has read some things on the internet; but is unaware of what she doesn't know.
11. When someone complains to you about their specific situation and your situation is worse than theirs is. For example at summer camps when friends would complain about only getting 3 letters, when you did not receive any.
Some people like to complain, and most of the time they do not care how their situation compares to the situation of the person they're complaining too.
12. When someone claims that they have jet lag and they're flying from colorado.
This might be a cry for attention or a simple case of someone who wants to complain about anything. A 3 hour time difference would not cause jet lag significant enough for discomfort.
13. When people make you feel guilty about saying no to a social situation, instead of being understanding, when you're unable to go because of an unfortunate situation.
This happens when people are ignorant, unaware, or uncaring of the fact that a person is having a bad day or going through a rough time. Instead, they are so focused on themselves that they try to make you feel bad for them that you're not going.
14. When roommates use your kitchen supplies and leave them dirty in the sink, so you have to wash them to use it and then wash it again after.
This is complete inconsideration and irresponsibility. Their pan might be dirty or in the washing machine, so they use your clean pan... instead of cleaning it and putting it back the way it was, they leave it dirty in the sink again; so that when you want to use your pan you have to wash it, use it, and wash it again. Causing double the amount of work for the responsible roommate.
15. When people take over the washing machine or drier for days and will not rotate their laundry.
Laziness, irresponsibility, and forgetfulness can all cause people to leave their laundry in the wash. This makes it impossible for the next person to accomplish their own tasks.
16. When someone is really hot after coming back from exercising and puts the air conditioning down unreasonably low. Then once they cooled down, they put the heat on to raise the temperature of the house again, wasting so much energy.
This is a selfish and panicky response to being hot. The money wasted on the electric bill is of no importance to them because they are hot and want to be cooled down as quickly as possible, even if it is irresponsible and foolish to do it this way.
17. Irresponsibility with cars; not realizing you are almost out of gas until you are frantically searching for a gas station or broken down on the side of the road.
This is immaturity in my opinion. Car's will always need gas, and it is your responsibility as a car owner to check to see when you need to fill up. It bugs me that people run out of gas as often as they do.
18. Not wanting to spend more than $5.00 on gas, which simply leads to having to stop many more times for gas, and wasting time, instead of saving money.
This is illogical... A car will need the same amount of gas for driving a certain amount of miles. Some people are so resistant to spending money, but the same money will be spent in the end, whether you stop for gas 4 times, or stop for gas once.
19. Double standards, thinking its not okay or safe for your child to do something, but not deeming it perfectly reasonable for someone else's child to do the same thing.
People's thoughts are so predominantly with their own children that it's easy to not prioritize the safety of others'.
20. When someone tries to convince you to do something you don't want to do, and will not accept no for an answer, such as going out to midtown on a Saturday night with them and their friends.
People are selfish, once again, and sometimes have less respect for some of their friends' wishes and desires.
After reading through my bug list and reflecting, I've come to the conclusion that waiting, irresponsibility, selfishness, and inconsideration for others is what bugs me the most. I like to be very efficient in my day to day tasks and I hate wasting unnecessary time. This is why slow cashiers, slow customers, and waiting for people to finish making decisions or eating, bugs me. I also dislike when people do not show concern for others by being selfish and inconsiderate. I am a very independent person, and I try not to cause distress for other people or waste other's time. When peoples' laziness or irresponsibility effects me negatively, I get upset. It was difficult for me to think of my bug list, but explaining their irritability once I thought of them became easy. I'm sure I am guilty of some of these items on my list, but I strive to be responsible, considerate, efficient, and selfless, in order to not bug or inconvenience other people.

My Entrepreneurship Story
Growing up, my dad has always stressed the importance of entrepreneurship and owning your own business. He started his own business, which is a combination of general contracting and development. This maximizes profits because he hires himself to do all his general contracting work instead of hiring a second party. I've always been inspired by him to eventually work for myself, after a few years learning with a company. When I was in middle school, I made my first attempt at entrepreneurship by starting a summer camp in my house with a friend of mine. I attended sleep away summer camp growing up, so I wanted to incorporate the aspects of camp that I loved into a day time babysitting business. We decided to start a week long day camp for young elementary school kids. We sent out fliers to all the elementary school kids in kindergarten through 3rd grade and charged them a weeklong camp fee. After all the supplies I bought, our profits were slim, but it was a great learning experience. I decided to enroll in ENT3003 because of the inspiration from my father to start my own business. I also find the combination of creativity, innovation, and business skills fascinating. Some of the most brilliant, successful people in the country have been entrepreneurs, who have changed the world in countless ways. Someday I hope to be one of them!
Introduction
Hi classmates! My name is Cassie Spinner and I am a junior Finance major from Jacksonville, FL. I transferred here in the fall from Santa Fe, so I have been living in Gainesville for the past two and a half years. At home I live with my dad and my two little sisters. My dad owns a development business where he works closely with banks taking out loans and leveraging properties. I have been interested in the financial sides of his business since I was in middle school, so I hope to get a job in the industry and eventually take over my dad's business when he retires. I love to travel, on my own and with my family. I try to visit multiple countries every year because I believe experiences are much more valuable than material items. So far I have visited 42 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, and I plan on making travel a huge part of my future as well. This is a picture of me in Pattaya, Thailand two weeks ago.
